Alibi Ale Works

This building in downtown Truckee on the corner of Bridge Street and Jibboom Street holds a long history dating back to the 1940’s. What was "Coffey’s Garage" has since been home to a couple of banks and a Crossfit gym. Locals are excited about the latest business taking charge of this building. Alibi Ale Works is now open with an entirely updated interior offering a comfortable gathering space. Having roots in the area, this is the second location for Alibi. Their Incline Village location has been in operation since 2014 after a Kickstarter campaign in 2012. Now, adding a special something to downtown Truckee, Alibi is serving up 22 draft beers daily, delicious food bites and live music.

BeerThere is a constant rotation of beers on draft with 22 offerings each day. Every beer is made with 100% Lake Tahoe water. Whether it is dark, light, hoppy or sour, each one has a delicious character. I tried the nitro beer on draft that day. It was the Coconut Brown that surprisingly had a of flavors in the smooth nitro cream.

FoodThe specialty here is nachos. Love nachos? With 7 different varieties to choose from, be prepared for your idea of nachos to be turned upside-down. Start with the Korean nachos and finish off with the s’mores nachos! Small bites are also offered like cheese, olives and a vegetable platter.

MusicMusic is offered multiple nights a week with everything from mellow solo artists to high energy bands that will get the crowd out on the dance floor. I am excited to experience this new music venue myself with room to move and great bands like locals Coburn Station and Muzicka, a 16 piece folk band from Czech Republic.

Old Town Tap

Truckee’s newest restaurant, Old Town Tap, is located in historic downtown at the end of commercial row. Husband and wife team Marlena and Luke brought their Bay Area restaurant background to Truckee and have opened up great place to stop in for a drink and enjoy lunch or dinner. Pull up a barstool at the bar as the garage style window is open at the front letting the fresh air in. "What will it be today?" the bartender asks. The choices are endless with 16 beers on tap, 12 wines on tap and Luke, the bartender, perfecting his cocktails more and more each day.

On the food front everything is suitable for sharing or for an individual meal. The environment, menu and service is perfect for going out with a group, a nice lunch, or on a private date night. The Di Stefano Burrata is a perfect starter, deliciously silky burrata cheese served with flat bread. The watermelon salad is cool and crisp with surprisingly deep flavors. The specialty pizza menu is expansive, creative, and delicious. Dessert is a must- try the soft serve ice cream which is from the specialty Petaluma family farm, the Double 8 Dairy.

It is completely worth checking out Truckee's newest culinary hotspot to enjoy some creative flavors and a charming setting.

Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival

Now in it’s 30th year, the Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival is one of Northstar’s most anticipated events.  The festival is three full days of cooking seminars and demonstrations, culinary competitions, wine tastings, a farm-to-Tahoe dinner, live music, a gourmet marketplace and more.

On Friday the main events are focused up on Northstar mountain.  The Ritz Carlton is hosting the Art of Mixology and a wine inspired Painted Vine event.  Another option would be to take a ride on the Big Springs gondola and meet at Zephyr Lodge for the Farm-to-Tahoe Dinner featuring fresh, sustainable and locally sourced produce with Northstar’s executive chef Chad Shrewsbury.

Saturday is packed with events to choose from. Cooking demonstrations like mozzarella cheese making, grilling, Autumn salad cooking and fall harvest desserts where you will learn how to incorporate the seasons best fall harvest fruits into delicious desserts. These events are all free and hosted by very talented chefs.  The progressive picnic for lunch sounds like a winner with beer and tapas tastings along with a professionally guided wilderness hike on Northstar mountain with breathtaking views and expert knowledge of the flora and fauna found on the trail.  For the afternoon, kick back and relax as you make your way through the Village at Northstar for the wine and brew walk.  Don’t miss the highly anticipated event that will top the night off, Blazing Pans Mountain Chef Cook-Off with celebrity chef Joseph Keller.

On Sunday top chefs from the region will come together in the heart of the Village at Northstar for a Culinary Competition and Grand Tasting.  Each chef’s dish is paired with a perfect compliment from the winery or brewery of their choice.  Chefs will compete for the best marriage of food and wine/beverage and best food categories and the coveted Peoples Choice awards.  The pairings are open for ticket holders to enjoy.
