SnowFest!

March 3 – March 12, 2017

It’s that time of year again and the 36th Annual Snowfest will be kicking off this weekend all around North Lake Tahoe. Every year since 1982 Snowfest has promoted Tahoe’s incredible weather and skiing in early March, and encourages tourism to the area in a traditionally off-season time of the year. Snowfest also provides an opportunity for the locals to get out and enjoy Tahoe at its winter's best. This year, the incredible winter continues and the events this year are sure to be bigger and better than ever. The area will be coming alive with parades, races, parties, concerts, theater and plenty of wining and dining options starting this Thursday.

Thursday is the kickoff party at Garwoods starting at 5:30pm featuring music by Groove Foundry and of course, the famous Garwood’s Wet Woody.

Fireworks in Tahoe City start off the weekend on Friday night and a pancake breakfast at the Tahoe City firehouse is a tradition on Saturday. Then the parade takes place in the heart of Tahoe City on North Lake Boulevard at 11:30am.

Click here for a list of all events.

One of the more popular events is the Wine ’n Ice in Truckee at the Truckee River Winery, now in it’s 7th year. Local, talented professionals will transform large blocks of ice into works of art. Enjoy watching the ice artists at work while sipping wine and listening to the guest DJ spinning beats.

Another signature event is the polar bear swim where only the brave will jump into Lake Tahoe on Saturday, March 4th and swim 250 yards in bone-chilling water. If jumping into the Tahoe ice bucket isn’t for you, being a spectator is also very entertaining. Stick around for the very popular raffle after the swim and the awards ceremony as first place is awarded $150 and of course bragging rights for the entire year. This year is sure to be one to remember as the shores are covered in ice and deep cold snow.

The skiing is unbelievable right now and with all these events, there are more reasons than ever to come enjoy a Tahoe week or weekend.

35th Annual North Lake Tahoe SnowFest

35th Annual North Lake Tahoe SnowFest

The highly anticipated North Lake Tahoe SnowFest begins this Thursday, March 3rd and runs through Sunday, March 13th. This year marks the 35th anniversary of SnowFest, and the theme is "SnowFest - Through the Years".

Since 1982, the North Lake Tahoe area has been celebrating winter with 10 days and nights of activities and events. Each day is packed with a variety of options including food, music, and lively winter competitions such as Human Bowling, the Polar Bear Swim, Dress up your Dog contest, and snow sculpting. The ski resorts including Squaw Valley, Homewood, Alpine Meadows, Diamond Peak, and Northstar all host on-mountain events. Many local shops and restaurants participate as well with specials, wine, and dining options in conjunction with SnowFest.

The best way to keep track of the action packed SnowFest is to pay attention to the online calendar of events. There is no shortage of things to do, particularly on the weekends. This Saturday, March 5th the official SnowFest parade will start at 11:30 in Tahoe City followed by the classic Gar Woods Polar Bear Swim at 2:30. A fireworks show closes out the day at 7PM.

With a lot of snow in the forecast, the 35th annual SnowFest will surely be one to remember.

Snowfest!

Snowfest!
February 27th – March 8th

Time for the 33rd annual Snowfest! in North Lake Tahoe.  This will be the ultimate snow dance for the region.  Come snow or no snow, the 10 days following the opening ceremonies at Squaw Valley this Friday, February 27th are sure to bring excitement! With over 60 events in between Truckee and Tahoe there is something for everyone, even your dog.

Start the week off with a night filled with fun, fireworks and a torch light parade at Squaw Valley Friday night.  Rise and shine Saturday morning for the North Tahoe firefighters pancake breakfast, Saturday 7am.  Finish up just in time for the parade in downtown Tahoe City.

From there, jump in the fun for the polar bear swim.  Fun to watch and for the very brave, fun to participate as others will watch you jump in Lake Tahoe!  Throughout the week you can find excitement everywhere with bar olympics, ice carving, the dog Ididarun event a Tahoe Donner, a fashion show and so much more.

My favorite event this year is the LUNAFest Film, Food and Wine put on as a fundraiser for the local Girls on the Run Sierras, an elementary and middle school program that helps young girls through running and self image lessons.  LUNAFest is a whole night filled with good people, silent auction, food, wine, music and finished off with a screenings
of  award-winning short films by women film makers.  Buy your tickets early and be prepared to be impressed by these powerful films.
