Downtown Truckee Tree Lighting

Downtown Truckee Tree Lighting

It’s been a Truckee tradition for over 35 years.  The Bud Fish Tree Lighting is this Friday, November 18th.    The holiday fun begins this weekend in Historic Downtown Truckee with a visit from jolly old St. Nick, tree decorating, singing and holiday treats.  Local elementary school children will start the night by decorating 37 trees that line Donner Pass Road with hand crafted ornaments.  Take a stroll down the lane as each tree is unique.

Around 5pm, keep your eyes out as Santa arrives aboard an antique fire engine.  All the kids flock to the train depot with a smile as they have just spotted the man in the red suit himself, Santa!  Santa will oversee the lighting of gigantic tree and all of downtown while the crowd helps with the countdown.

Santa will invite all children to sit upon his knee for pictures and listen to Christmas wishes.  Hear the cheerful tunes sung by carolers as you enjoy the crisp air, hot cocoa, cookies and holiday cheer.

Truckee Thursdays 2016

Truckee Thursdays 2016

What has come to be one of Truckee’s signature events starts this Thursday, June 9th. Truckee Thursdays is an event that closes down Donner Pass Road in old town Truckee and brings the whole community out to enjoy warm summer nights.  Artisan vendors line the middle of the street with a wide array of art, clothing, jewelry, candles, soaps and artisan delicacies.

The downtown shops also stay open late to participate in the street activities.  Look for specials, additional entertainment or food and beverage offerings at the local shops on Thursday nights.

On the west side of the Visitors Center are food stations and tables for outdoor dining. What do your taste buds desire?  Sushi, hamburgers, tacos, pulled pork, lobster rolls and ice cream are all an option.  While you sit and enjoy your dinner, let the kids play on the bouncy house or challenge a friend to a hula hoop match.  On the east side of the visitors center is live music and a beer garden.  Grab a beverage, sit back and enjoy or get out and dance.  This week the Deadlies will be playing sounds of California surf scene and roadhouse honkytonk music.

New this year is a shuttle service, to and from the event from all Truckee neighborhoods including Northstar and Squaw Valley.

Don’t miss this very fun and social community event.
