Alpenglow Mountain Festival-Winter

We are in the midst of one of the most comprehensive and fun winter festivals that is hosted in Tahoe; the Alpenglow Mountain Festival-Winter. The festival is focused on exploring some of the best human-powered activities that the Tahoe area has to offer. This is the fifth year of the festival that showcases more than 75 events that are designed for beginner and intermediate mountain recreation enthusiasts. The diverse offerings include back-country skiing and splitboarding, cross country skiing snowshoeing, natural history, yoga, live music, educational workshops, social gatherings, back-country cooking, dog friendly events, winter astronomy events and much more.

The festival started on February 17th and runs through the 25th. The lineup of events covers many different disciplines and is an excellent way to get into or learn about activities that are "off the beaten path". The best and most unique aspect of the festival is that many of the events are free for participants.

A major highlight event of the festival is Nachspektakel, a European-inspired uphill ski touring event. The evening starts at 4pm taking you on an uphill skinning adventure to the top of a mountain to enjoy Lake Tahoe views and a backcountry bonfire. The star-filled sky surrounds as participants enjoy a three-course mountaintop meal. Don’t miss this special night in the Tahoe backcountry.

Click here for full details on Alpenglow Mountain Festival and don’t miss out on the Alpenglow Mountain Festival Summer from June 16th – 24th, 2018.

Northstar

Northstar

It all started with the new Village in 2006 at the base of Northstar mountain with 213 condos built over 137,019 sf of retail. At the center, a 9,000 sf ice skating rink in the winter that doubles as roller skating and a concert area in the summer. Later, The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe opened in 2009 offering the only AAA Five Diamond mountain resort experience in California.

The accommodations and high end luxury real estate available to purchase or rent are not the only improvements happening in the last 10 years. On mountain offerings at Northstar have soared to new heights with activities that will make every ski day a unique experience.

There are many perks you can find that don’t cost extra money but will definitely add extra enjoyment. Open the mountain early with Northstar's ski patrol. Sign up and be there by 7:30am for first tracks. At 2pm every day, celebrate another epic day and join Northstar with a champagne toast on the top of the mountain. At the end of the day head down to the Village for complimentary smores around the ice rink. Most days there will also be live music on the Village stage all afternoon.

Other options are available to make the day as easy as possible. The Platinum Experience offers options like skipping the lift line, valet parking or exclusive private lessons. The Burton Academy provides a customized experience for each border with the new terrain-based teaching methodology. For an extra special night after skiing sign up for one of The Mountain Table Dinners where a locally sourced dinner is complemented by a winery and set on top of the mountain in Zephyr Lodge. Floor to ceiling windows set the stage for an unforgettable meal.

The Burton Snowboard Academy

The Burton Snowboard Academy

Northstar California, in partnership with Burton Snowboards has created the only Burton Snowboard Academy in the world.  The program is designed to welcome new riders to the sport, encourage the progression of those already in the sport and provide a customized experience built around an entirely new terrain-based teaching methodology.

Located mid-mountain at Northstar, the Burton Academy tent and base camp has everything to get you going with all the gear and a lounge for all academy participants to relax and reflect on the days learning experiences.

Just outside the tent is the Big Easy lift and the carefully crafted terrain to make your learning quicker, safer and easier.  Just above the Big Easy and learning terrain is The Stash, a natural terrain park tucked inside the woods and the big terrain parks where coaches will take those who want to progress and push their snowbaording skills.  The Burton Academy is not just for beginners.  There is always more to learn and the coaches at Northstar are some of the best in the industry.

Northstar is Opening Early

Northstar is Opening Early

Northstar California is opening early this year! Saturday, November 14th, Northstar will be kicking off the 2015-16 ski and ride season a week earlier than anticipated. This is the earliest they have opened since 2012. With about three feet of snow so far recorded on mountain for the season and the west coast's largest snowmaking system going full blast, the conditions are sure to impress. The mountain is opening top to bottom including the Big Springs Gondola, 3 lifts and the mid mountain magic carpet. Lifts include Vista Express, Arrow Express and Comstock Express taking you to the top of Mt. Pluto, elevation 8610ft looking over Lake Tahoe.

It is always fun to be part of opening day. Besides sharing (bragging) about it on social media, Northstar has some fun in store for the weekend. Start your collection of Epic pins with the Opening Day digital pin. Be one of the first 50 people in line at the Big Springs Express Gondola and receive a bag of Northstar Signature Brittle. End the day with live music and complimentary S’mores around the rink in the center of the Village.

Let’s celebrate the snow snow snow! Hope to see you at Northstar this weekend!

2015/2016 Tahoe Ski Pass

The air is getting crisp and Mammoth Mountain has already reported snow flurries.  Are you ready for a big winter in Tahoe? Reports of the monster El Niño continue… have you purchased your season pass yet?  Now is the time as most pass prices will go up in or after October.   Every resort in the Tahoe area has it’s perks.  It will be hard to pick just one.  With Northstar’s Epic Pass you can ski at over 12 resorts, three of which are here in the Tahoe Basin.  Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows has teamed up with Sugar Bowl and Sierra-at-Tahoe to give pass holders bonus days at their resorts.  Squaw/Alpine has also set up their "Worry-Free Guarantee" program giving customers a credit for next season if they don’t use their pass more than 5 times this season.  Sugar Bowl throws in food and beverage discounts and 1 trail pass/lesson/rental at Royal Gorge Cross Country Center.  Diamond Peak and Homewood Mountain Resort always have the best Lake views.  Boreal Mountain has teamed up with Woodward Tahoe with a season pass good for both venues so you can polish your park riding skills on and off the mountain.  What mountain will you choose?

Northstar Opening Day - 2014

Northstar Opening Day

Thursday, November 21, 2014

With overnight snow Thursday night opening day at Northstar was a great success!  With 3 lifts and 2 gondolas open with sun shining, it is worth the trip to the mountain.

Be sure to check-in to the Northstar tent at the top of the Big Springs Express Gondola deck for a chance to win a Go-Pro and pick up some Epic swag!

On the mountain, Vista, Arrow and Big Easy were spinning.  Snow coverage on the trails that were open is great.  Off the shoulder of the Vista chair, you can even find 2 terrain parks for a little fun.
