Drink Coffee Do Stuff

Extraordinary Coffee in Truckee, California

Nick Visconti is a Truckee/San Francisco native who grew up carving the slopes of Northstar California since the age of 1. He then spent most of the 2000’s traveling the world as a professional snowboarder. The name is familiar, his dedication runs deep and his personality is inviting. He has put his professional riding in the back seat and is now pursuing a career in coffee. Yes, after 5 years of roasting apprenticeships in specialty coffee jobs in the Pacific Northwest, Visconti and his wife moved back to Truckee where they are now roasting coffee in Truckee, California.

Drink Coffee Do Stuff – Extraordinary Coffee Leads to an Extraordinary Life is his brand. "Whether they’re off to work or their next Tahoe vacation, I want this coffee to be the catalyst to a really extraordinary day,” says Visconti. His brand is deigned to reflect the mountain culture and adventure lifestyle that is found in Tahoe. To make the Tahoe life even better (or at least your morning cup of coffee), they offer free delivery in Truckee and Northstar. “Less hassle, better coffee, extraordinary life,” says Visconti.

Visconti’s deep rooted passion for coffee shows in the quality product that he is making. “Roasting coffee is a dance of art and science. I’m manipulating the chemistry of the coffee bean on a molecular level, but it’s also an art where I’m using all five of my senses,” Visconti says. The precision and care that is put into his beans results in a magnificent cup of coffee. All of the beans that Drink Coffee Do Stuff is roasting are classified as specialty coffee and grown between 4,000 and 9,000 feet (ideal growing elevations). So far, all roasts have scored above 80 points on a 100 point scale by industry experts.

Drink Coffee Do Stuff offers four single origin coffees, which will change throughout the season as well as two blends that are always on the menu.

Visit drinkcoffeedostuff.com to order your beans today and experience an extraordinary cup of coffee to start your extraordinary day.

Made in Tahoe Festival

The Made in Tahoe Festival is full of the happy outdoor, adventure, creative vibe that the Tahoe lifestyle embraces. This two day event takes place in The Village at Squaw Valley and is free for all to enjoy.

There are 3 stages that will host local entertainment throughout the day. From 11am – 7pm on Saturday and 11am – 5pm on Sunday local bands, singers, theatrical and dance performances will fill the Village with lively energy. The Truckee Dance Factory will perform at 1pm each day with their captivating performances that encourage the audience to get moving.
Jewelry, furniture, clothing, artwork, bath & body products, skis, bikes and services will all be represented as part of the more than 100 vendors that will be participating in this year’s event. Pottery from Alanna Hughes Pottery is one of my favorites or Hawk & Field jewelry and lotions. Another local favorite all around is Truckee Love where you can show your support for the area with a shirt, hat or souvenir. You will find a large selection of one of a kind products all in one place.

Getting hungry yet? Local food vendors will be on hand with tasty treats like dessert or savery crepes from Crepe Hearts, beer from Alibi Ale Works, pizza and sushi from Starkey’s food truck and more. There are also the food choices at Squaw Valley like Fireside Pizza or Mountain Nectar.

At the base of Squaw looking up at the majestic peaks above, it’s the ideal place to be celebrating Tahoe mountain life and culture.

bigtruck

Bigtruck is a company that started in 2010 by home grown Tahoe native, Galen Gifford.  It started as a hobby but turned into a career.  Where there is passion, there is success for this local company.  Founded on the belief that fun brings us together and doing what we love contributes to our greatest achievements; #FunFirst is now infused in everything bigtruck stands for.  The recipe is working,  because now in stores all over the country you will find unique trucker hats adorned with bigtruck's playful dump truck logo.  The brand is steadily becoming an icon in the realm of extreme sports, with professional athletes in everything from skiing to Nascar wearing their bigtruck hats in front of a national audience.  Here in Tahoe we like to support this local company and wear the hats proudly.  The latest hat badge is the new Truckee logo as part of the Truckee Base Camp Collection.

The company has grown exponentially, but they are still based here in Truckee.  However, with growth comes more employees and the need for more space.  Bigtruck has moved and are ready to showcase their new space.  This Thursday, December 15th from 5pm to 8pm bigtruck will be hosting their official grand opening of the new space locoed in the Pioneer Center in Truckee.  An official ribbon-cutting ceremony by Mayor Morgan Goodwin will begin promptly at 5pm followed by an open house.  Come out to support this phenomenal local company and enjoy refreshments and special holiday offers on products and prizes.

My favorite option is the Made in Tahoe Festival at Squaw Valley.  With a long line-up of bands both Saturday and Sunday, this will be a lively place to hang out.  Enjoy the Village as you explore a wide array of offerings that are made or inspired in the Lake Tahoe Basin and Truckee areas. You are sure to find some unique gifts, some good food,  and lots of talent as we celebrate Tahoe, the gorgeous place that we all love.

Northsatar Bike/Hike Park Opening

The bike/hike park opens at Northstar!  Come explore Northstar in the Summer.  If it’s a charilift ride to the top of Vista Express or a hike out to Sawmill Lake or a fast downhill bike ride, get out and enjoy every bit of this mountain.  On Sunday, venture up to the Boondocks trail for USA Cycling Downhill Regional Championships race, there is sure to be some action to watch.

Truckee Home & Building Show

Truckee Home & Building Show will highlight everything you need to build, remodel, landscape and decorate your mountain home.  The 23rd annual event  will bring together  150 exhibits, informational lectures, the local utility district with free light bulbs and Tahoe Forest Health System featuring a healthy living forum.  A great event to check out for anyone who owns a Tahoe home.
