Old Streets of Truckee Dinner & Show

Does the history of Truckee intrigue you? The stories are wild, dangerous, exciting and at times devastating. Tales including gun fights, the building of the railroad, fires taking out the entire town, and the rowdy past of Jibboom Street's red light district all contribute to a great story.  

Richard Blair is a local guitarist with a passion for the area’s past.  In his recording studio in Russell Valley he is turning these stories into modern folk/roots/Americana melodies and keeping the history alive.   One of the most popular songs is named, “The Duel”, the story of the famed shootout between early Truckee Sheriff Jacob Teeter and James Reed, the deputy with whom he shared a rocky relationship.  The songs are all fun and have fascinating historical roots.  

 

Richard Blair has teamed up with a popular local historical site and long time social club, Cottonwood Restaurant and Bar to present  “The Streets of Truckee”.  This dinner and show performance includes a blend of education, comedy and music.  All this while enjoying the fine cuisine of the Cottonwood Restaurant.  “You can’t really do a gunfight in Cottonwood,” Blair says.  But shy of that, the skits promise to be as close to living history as it gets.

This event takes place on various nights throughout the year at Cottonwood.  The next show is this weekend on November 26th.  Sign up for a night of fun and excitement.

Made in Tahoe Festival

The Made in Tahoe Festival is full of the happy outdoor, adventure, creative vibe that the Tahoe lifestyle embraces. This two day event takes place in The Village at Squaw Valley and is free for all to enjoy.

There are 3 stages that will host local entertainment throughout the day. From 11am – 7pm on Saturday and 11am – 5pm on Sunday local bands, singers, theatrical and dance performances will fill the Village with lively energy. The Truckee Dance Factory will perform at 1pm each day with their captivating performances that encourage the audience to get moving.

Jewelry, furniture, clothing, artwork, bath & body products, skis, bikes and services will all be represented as part of the more than 100 vendors that will be participating in this year’s event. Pottery from Alanna Hughes Pottery is one of my favorites or Hawk & Field jewelry and lotions. Another local favorite all around is Truckee Love where you can show your support for the area with a shirt, hat or souvenir. You will find a large selection of one of a kind products all in one place.

Getting hungry yet? Local food vendors will be on hand with tasty treats like dessert or savery crepes from Crepe Hearts, beer from Alibi Ale Works, pizza and sushi from Starkey’s food truck and more. There are also the food choices at Squaw Valley like Fireside Pizza or Mountain Nectar.

17th Annual Best of Tahoe Chefs

One of Tahoe's favorite fundraisers, Best of Tahoe Chefs, is coming up and is hosted at the Ritz Carlton, Lake Tahoe. Benefitting the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center for patients, family and caregiver programs, this is a great event for a great cause. 

Each year some of the best chefs in the region come together to present a night full of mouth-watering food. This year, Scott Yorkey of Jake’s on the Lake will come together with 24 others including William Burns of Moody’s Bistro Bar & Beats, Robb Wyss of Sunnyside Resort and Brett Mosley of Martis Camp to present the evenings fare. 

The theme is “A Night of Magic".There will be a live and silent auction along with a range of culinary experiences that you won't want to miss.  To top off the event, there will be music and dancing. 

Sure to be a sell out event, get your tickets today!  If you can’t be here, consider a ticket donation that will benefit ​a cancer patient.

S'moresapalooza at Northstar

A perfect end to a perfect ski day? S'mores of course. Northstar has taken the love of S'mores to a new level. On February 27th, Northstar is hosting "S'moresapalooza"- an afternoon event to celebrate everyone's favorite gooey winter treat. 

The festivities will start at 2PM with music on the Northstar Village stage. At 3:30 there will be free S'mores in the Village before the "S'mores Walk". A handful of Village businesses are stops on the S'mores walk. Mikuni will be providing S'mores Bark, AGL will have a S'mores cookie bar, the Beach Area will have a S'mores Pop, Starbucks will be showcasing a S'mores Crispy Treat, and Butterbox tops it off with S'mores Shooters. 

Ripperoo will be hosting a S'mores roast at the Overlook Bar starting at 4:30. 

At 5:30 the DJ will begin performing on the Village Stage, this may be a good opportunity to burn off some S'mores calories with some dancing.

The place to be if you are a lucky four legged friend this Saturday, February 13th is the 8th Annual Black Tie and Tails Gala. 

Hosted by the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. this event is wildly popular, unique, and for a good cause. The event usually sells out, so if you miss it this year put it on your calendar for 2017.

Starting at 5:30 pm, guests and their canine companions are greeted to a red carpet arrival, champagne and hors d'oeuvres, and of course, passed apps for the pups. Music, dancing, entertainment Ritz-Carlton style, and an evening with your best friend, what more could you want?

Tahoe Chocolate & Wine Festival

The Tahoe Chocolate & Wine Festival benefiting the Tahoe SAFE Alliance is this Saturday, November 7th at the Hyatt Regency in Incline Village, NV.  For 27 years now, the festival has consistently been a community favorite.  When you put wine and chocolate together, what’s not to like?  This year they are bringing back the fun with the theme  “Life is a Caber{n}et!”.  Guests will be brought back in time to the 18th century when Cabarets were all the rage.  A variety of boutique wines will be paired with outstanding chocolate creations prepared by Tahoe’s finest culinary artists.  If you save some room, scrumptious appetizers will also be served.  

Don’t miss the raffle and live auction with prizes that include a weekend adventure at the Turley House in Paso Robles, Squaw/Alpine Gold ski passes, Disneyland tickets, local dining gift certificates, massages and more!

IRONMAN- Lake Tahoe

IRONMAN has become one of the most popular triathlon races in the world.  IRONMAN started in Hawaii in 1978 and now has more than two dozen races held all over the world from Taiwan to Australia.  Athletes competing in these races have trained for months and years ahead of this day for the chance to break a personal best or to simply finish.  To go out and watch these athletes is exhilarating, inspiring and of course the competitors will appreciate some encouragement from the sidelines. 

This Sunday, September 20 IRONMAN will be coming to Lake Tahoe with prime viewing locations at Squaw Valley, Kings Beach, Tahoe City and Truckee.  
The 2.4 mile swim will take place in Kings Beach with a 1.2 mile course-the athletes will do two laps starting at 6:40am.  From there, athletes transition to the 112 mile bike ride.  The course will take riders on a two lap triangle loop with corners at Kings Beach, Tahoe City, Truckee and back to Kings Beach.  On the third lap around, riders will take a left turn as they pass by Squaw Valley.  Transition two is in the Village at Squaw.  Competitors will then take off on the 26.2 (marathon) run to Tahoe City and back and then back again to Tahoe City before they complete their day in the heart of the Village at Squaw and become an IRONMAN finisher.  The final stage is an incredible place to be as athletes will be finishing into the night with a final cut off time at 12am Sunday night, that’s 17 hours 15minutes after the start.  What a day! 

Look out for local athletes Jeff Dostie who is competing for a personal challenge. Jeff Schloss, who has completed 2 Iron-distance races, is hoping that living at altitude will help him with his goal of qualifying for the Ironman World Championships. Adrian Tieslau has trained through the demanding schedule of a full time job and 3 kids.
All throughout the weekend the IRONMAN Village will be open with shops and vendors in the Village at Squaw.  On Saturday at 9am join in on the IRONKID.  Kids ages 3 to 15 can compete in a 1 mile or 1/4 mile race at Squaw Valley.  The IRONMAN will bring much excitement to the area this weekend.  

Swim. Bike. Run. Go. Go. Go!

Each year some of the best chefs in the region come together to present a night full of mouth-watering food, course after course.  This year executive chef and the nights featured chef, Chad Shrewsbury of Zephyr Lodge at Northstar California will come together with 24 others including William Burns of Moody’s Bistro Bar & Beats, Robb Wyss of Sunnyside Resort and Brett Mosley of Martis Camp to present the evenings fare. 

The theme is "All Aboard"!  Come in your best shipboard evening attire.  The live and silent auction is packed with amazing personal chef experiences that you won't want to miss.  To top off the event, dance the night away with music from The Zins featuring high-energy, groove oriented music.  The dance floor will be rocking!
