PJ's Summer Concert Series

PJ’s summer concert series kicked off this week and will continue every Tuesday evening through September 4th from 5:30PM-7:30PM.  Located on the lawn outside of PJ’s restaurant at Gray’s Crossing, the setting is unreal with open grass seating and huge mountain views as a backdrop. It is easy to see why these concerts have become a summer tradition in Truckee.

Seating options include first-come-first-serve space for blankets and chairs on the lawn, or reservations are welcome for those who would like a table dining experience while enjoying the music. For those on the lawn, there are walk up food options available for purchase including burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches along with a full bar. Table reservations will enjoy a specialty BBQ menu and buffet that includes PJ’s signature ribs, chicken, salads, desserts and more. Reservation dining can be booked in advance and usually fills up fast.

Next Tuesday, look for Peter Joseph Burtt and The Kingtide on the stage at PJ’s. Burtt’s music draws on influences from time he spent studying and playing with musicians in Africa, and much of his music is played on traditional instruments like the 26 stringed kora. Look for well-known local acts on the calendar as well such as the Dead Winter Carpenters, The Serina Dawn Band, and everyone’s favorite: Ike and Martin.

Sitting on the grass, enjoying breathtaking views and music on a summer evening is pretty perfect. PJ’s is the place to be this summer to celebrate long, gorgeous Tahoe summer days.

Alpenglow Sports Mountain Festival - Summer 2018

The Alpenglow Sports Mountain Festival is the ultimate outdoor recreation summer kick-off event in Tahoe.  For a week, the public can choose from an array of activities such as trail running races, running clinics, yoga, wildflower hikes, SUP tours, rock climbing lessons, birdwatching, open water swimming, dog first aid, book signings and special guest speakers and more. The Mountain Festival covers it all. The festival is from June 16-June 24th, and there are several options every day to learn something new or just get out in nature.

The festival opens with the epic Broken Arrow Skyrace, which is a 3 day event drawing elite trail runners and recreational runners alike. Skyracing is a European style of running that is characterized by off-trail scrambling, steep terrain and loose rock descents. The majority of the race will take place above 6,000 feet and all course options (52K, 26K, 10K, Vertical K) have a considerable amount of vertical gain and loss. A true mountain adventure, the Broken Arrow Skyrace is not to be missed for running enthusiasts. Live music, craft beer, food and film will greet runners at the end of the course surrounded by the gorgeous peaks of Squaw Valley.

For those who aren’t ready to participate a race, trail running, swimming, SUP and rock climbing clinics run throughout the week and can provide the foundation to help participants learn the fundamentals of each sport. There is so much to do in Tahoe and so many ways to enjoy nature. The Alpenglow Mountain Festival is an unbelievable opportunity to get out and see what these mountains are all about.

Truckee Thursdays - Summer 2018

Truckee’s most anticipated summer gathering begins next week. Truckee Thursdays, the best street party event in Tahoe will begin on June 14 and then on every Thursday throughout the rest of the summer. From 5PM-8PM downtown Truckee is happening featuring local and regional artisans, food trucks, children’s activities, a craft beer garden and live music. Shopping local and supporting local businesses is encouraged as downtown merchants keep their shops open late and often have sales in conjunction with the event.

Live music outside on a warm summer evening is hard to beat. The lineup for Truckee Thursdays has been posted and there are some great musicians and bands to enjoy.

This is the 10th year that Truckee Thursdays has been the place to be to kick off an epic Tahoe weekend. Each year gets better, and again there will be a shuttle service offered to alleviate parking issues and encourage event goers to enjoy the awesome craft beer responsibly. The shuttle schedule will be posted soon, keep an eye on the Truckee Thursdays website.
