Kudos to Northstar

Kudos to Northstar

Thank you for making my little girl's 4th birthday extra special on the ski mountain this past Friday.

From the moment we were in the Big Springs line until our last run, the good people who work at Northstar made my daughters awesome day "over the top" special. Here are some examples from our ski day…

We went to pick up her season pass and the person who helped us noticed it was her birthday and made a big deal about it and gave her a little gift and a granola bar.

Every time we got on a lift, the pass scanner would sing a little birthday jingle and the staff would collectively wish her a happy birthday.

On our way up the Big Springs gondola, a Northstar employee joined us for our ride up the mountain. She talked about skiing with my daughter the whole ride, and then at the end gave her a gift of Northstar chapstick, which she was thrilled about.

We made our way over to the Big Easy where I had some anxiety about riding the big chairlift with a little girl because it is a new thing for us. Again, an awesome experience all around. We get our passes scanned, the birthday song plays, and all of the Northstar employees working at the lift all wish my daughter a happy birthday and make a huge deal out of it. She now feels like she is the most important person on the planet, which makes mom happy too.

On top of that the people working the lift made sure she got on and off the lift safely and were extremely aware and helpful when needed. Again, happy mom.

Next time we ride on the Big Easy lift, one of the people working there runs out to us to give my daughter a special treat (little marshmallows) to eat on the lift for her birthday. Another unexpected gift. Awesome. I couldn't have scripted it better.

This genuinely kind treatment went on for the entire 3 hours we spent on the mountain and I was blown away. The ski conditions were great for us and I couldn't believe how nice and thoughtful and positive everyone at Northstar was.

Good job Vail and Northstar, you truly have set yourselves apart from everyone else in the resort industry.

Burton Mountain Festival

Burton Mountain Festival

January 23, 2015 – January 25, 2015

Snowboarding, snowboarding and more snowboarding!!  If you have been looking for a reason to try your luck at snowboarding, this weekend at Northstar is the perfect time and place!

Burton Mountain Festival is part of an eight resort tour.  Northstar is the 4th stop for this extensive, interactive snowboard demo experience in North America and features something for all ages and a chance to meet some of the best riders in the business.

Friday through Saturday Burton will be offering free demo gear at the top of the Big Springs Gondola.  For the little ones in the family, the Burton team will also be offering free snowboard instruction in Riglet Park. For the women in the family, look for the girls-only, luxury on-now Burton Girls tent on Saturday and meet up for breakfast and the group riding.

The veteran snowboarders (or anyone who wants to showcase their moves) will make sure to make it to the 2015 Party in Your Park contest.  This is a course set up by the resort and will feature urban to organic terrain.  There is no registration fee and snowboarders can simply show up and drop in.  Come early and bring your ‘A’ game because the prizes will be worth it, along with a chance to compete in the West Coast and East Coast finals.

Celebrate a good day of riding at the après parties.  Party with the girls from 3-5 at the Burton Girls tent or at TC’s Pub all night long!

Manzanita

Manzanita

The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe

Treat yourself to the fine dinning option at the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe and come to lunch or dinner at Manzanita. An experience and a delicious meal that you will come back for year after year.

Whether you are staying in the hotel or just up for the day, it’s worth your time to have a meal at Manzanita. With fresh, local and organic ingredients, the flavors radiate with each bite. You can’t really go wrong when ordering, but some favorites are the braised short ribs that will fall off the bone at first touch, you never thought trout could be so delicious! And the burger is the best in Tahoe, tried and true.

Enjoy the thoughtfully designed dining room with lots of fun textures and natural materials. The floor to ceiling windows looking out to the slopes of Northstar bring light in and provide an open view to reflect on the day’s adventures. The kitchen set is visible from all vantage points in the restaurant.

Don’t miss the special event this Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Manzanita. Celebrity chef Dean Fearing and author of “The Texas Food Bible” will host a pop-up style restaurant in Manzanita for the evening preparing a 5-course menu for guests. Sure to be a fun night.

$110 per person, $150 per person with wine pairings.

Getting there:
If you’re staying at the hotel, easy and convenient, Manzanita is located on the main floor of the Ritz-Carlton.

If you’re in the Village at Northstar, hop on the Highlands gondola (free for pedestrians without ski equipment). This 8 minute ride will drop you on the back patio of the hotel. From there, take a left and head down the stairway and into the hotel. Down the hall and the restaurant is there on the right.

If you are coming from outside of Northstar, head to the Ritz-Carlton via Highlands View Road off of HWY 267. This scenic 3 mile drive up to the hotel is beautiful. At the top of the hill, just past mid-mountain at Northstar, turn left into the entrance of The Ritz-Carlton. Valet parking only that will be discounted with restaurant validation.

Bon Apetite!

Tahoe-Truckee Market Summary - 2014

2014 Tahoe-Truckee Market Summary

The adage “quality over quantity” best sums-up the Tahoe-Truckee real estate market for 2014. With soaring economic conditions in the San Francisco Bay Area, more and more families made their way to Lake Tahoe to spend quality time together. This demand for home ownership led to a second straight year of over $1 billion in sales -- the first time since 2004-2005.

Following an exceptionally robust 2013, quality inventory was at a premium heading into 2014.  Despite fewer overall sales, the region’s dollar volume grew by over $100 million, indicative of a higher number of transactions for the market’s top tier properties. Average price grew by 18% in 2014 buoyed by 249 transactions at prices greater than $1 million.

Three communities in particular set the tone for the surging luxury market in 2014.

Tahoe Lakefronts, the gold standard for Tahoe real estate, outperformed all other classes over the past year with $130 million traded over 34 properties – the highest level in nearly a decade.

Martis Camp, elevating Tahoe resort property for nearly a decade now, has only 80 homesites left so the focus shifted to the sale of custom homes. 2014 saw 36 residences sold in this community at an average price of $3,700,000 -- a figure nearly identical to lakefront sales.

Finally, as Vail Resorts continues to distinguish itself as the world’s elite resort operator, the prestige of Northstar has risen to new levels. Accordingly, the opportunity to live on the Mountain has become its own calling card.  Mountainside Northstar, the community anchored by The Ritz-Carlton; Lake Tahoe, has established an identity as the premiere on-mountain living experience on the West Coast. In 2014, Mountainside experienced over $40,000,000 in transactions ranging from estate land to premiere ski-in / ski-out residences.

Looking ahead to 2015, all indications are that this robust market will continue. With inventory remaining at a balanced 6-month supply and stable economic conditions Tahoe appears poised for another year of growth.  As Martis Camp and The Ritz-Carlton Residences near sellout, Mountainside Northstar, Lahontan, Gray’s Crossing and Old Greenwood stand to benefit as the recipients of attention from well-qualified consumers.

At Tahoe Mountain Realty, we look forward to helping you making your Tahoe dream a reality in 2015.
