Noel Nights

The Village at Northstar is transforming into a winter holiday wonderland. The tree is up, the ice skating rink is rocking, the shops are full of winter gifts and the restaurants are cooking up delicious meals every day.

This week is the first of four magical Friday nights in the Northstar Village.  Noel Nights has been a Northstar tradition for years. The Village will be lively with sleigh bells ringing as the one horse open sleigh takes families and lovebirds for a ride around the Village.  The illuminated ice rink is filled with people of all ages and abilities enjoying a favorite winter ice skating pastime while listening to music.  Surrounding the ice rink are open fire pits with s’mores available for roasting and cabana bars open for a hot cocoa, hot toddies or a "Snuggler".  Carolers will be singing holiday tunes as they weave through the excitement.  Be on the lookout for the elves who roam the village in anticipation of Mr. Claus's grand appearance.  Be sure to look in all the nooks and crannies of the village for face painting, gingerbread house decorating and ornament making.  The best part of the night is when Santa arrives and kids of all ages rush to sit on his lap to tell him their Christmas wish.

This Friday is a special night, not only because it is the first day of December and the countdown to Christmas but also the Northstar Tree Lighting Ceremony.  Gather around at 7pm for a group countdown to light the beautiful 26 foot Christmas tree at the foot of the skating rink.

Sundays

Tahoe City
Sunday afternoons at the Concert Series at Commons Beach are my favorite.  Get there early for a good spot on the lawn and get ready for a family friendly dance party. With Lake Tahoe as a backdrop, a playground for the kids and food and beer tents, there is no better way to spend a Sunday evening.
4pm – 7pm
June 19 – September 4th

There is never a shortage of things to do in Tahoe in the summer. Live music is a perfect way to end another epic Tahoe summer day.

The Burton Snowboard Academy

The Burton Snowboard Academy

Northstar California, in partnership with Burton Snowboards has created the only Burton Snowboard Academy in the world.  The program is designed to welcome new riders to the sport, encourage the progression of those already in the sport and provide a customized experience built around an entirely new terrain-based teaching methodology.

Located mid-mountain at Northstar, the Burton Academy tent and base camp has everything to get you going with all the gear and a lounge for all academy participants to relax and reflect on the days learning experiences.

Just outside the tent is the Big Easy lift and the carefully crafted terrain to make your learning quicker, safer and easier.  Just above the Big Easy and learning terrain is The Stash, a natural terrain park tucked inside the woods and the big terrain parks where coaches will take those who want to progress and push their snowbaording skills.  The Burton Academy is not just for beginners.  There is always more to learn and the coaches at Northstar are some of the best in the industry.

Santa at Northstar and Squaw

Where’s Santa?

Have you seen the jolly guy in a red suit around Tahoe yet?  He has been checking his list and making his rounds.  There’s still time to catch a sighting, sit on his knee and tell him what you really want for Christmas this year.

Santa can always be seen at Northstar’s Noel nights.  The last one is this week, Thursday, December 17th.  With ice skating performances, gingerbread man decorating, face painting, one horse open sleigh rides and Santa himself, it is a night full of happiness.  Santa will also be around all week at Northstar starting on Sunday, December 19th.  Be on the lookout!

Santa will bring Mrs. Claus along as he visits the Ritz Carlton, Lake Tahoe on December 19th.  In the great living room of the Ritz-Carlton, Mr. and Mrs. Santa will make an appearance as kids of all ages gather for a chance to sit on his knee and talk about toys.  Stick around in this fairy tale setting with stone fireplaces tucked around every corner and sweeping snow covered views of the Northstar ski slopes through floor to ceiling windows.

Santa is very busy sharing time between Northstar and Squaw Valley.  He will be having breakfast at Cascades in the Resorts at Squaw Creek December 19-20 and 23-25.  He can also be seen taking some turns on the slopes.  Keep your eyes out or catch a chairlift ride with him December 19-24th.  He will also be relaxing in the big chair in The Village at Squaw Valley welcoming all who want to stop to say hello.

Northstar is Opening Early

Northstar is Opening Early

Northstar California is opening early this year! Saturday, November 14th, Northstar will be kicking off the 2015-16 ski and ride season a week earlier than anticipated. This is the earliest they have opened since 2012. With about three feet of snow so far recorded on mountain for the season and the west coast's largest snowmaking system going full blast, the conditions are sure to impress. The mountain is opening top to bottom including the Big Springs Gondola, 3 lifts and the mid mountain magic carpet. Lifts include Vista Express, Arrow Express and Comstock Express taking you to the top of Mt. Pluto, elevation 8610ft looking over Lake Tahoe.

It is always fun to be part of opening day. Besides sharing (bragging) about it on social media, Northstar has some fun in store for the weekend. Start your collection of Epic pins with the Opening Day digital pin. Be one of the first 50 people in line at the Big Springs Express Gondola and receive a bag of Northstar Signature Brittle. End the day with live music and complimentary S’mores around the rink in the center of the Village.

Let’s celebrate the snow snow snow! Hope to see you at Northstar this weekend!

Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival

Now in it’s 30th year, the Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival is one of Northstar’s most anticipated events.  The festival is three full days of cooking seminars and demonstrations, culinary competitions, wine tastings, a farm-to-Tahoe dinner, live music, a gourmet marketplace and more.

On Friday the main events are focused up on Northstar mountain.  The Ritz Carlton is hosting the Art of Mixology and a wine inspired Painted Vine event.  Another option would be to take a ride on the Big Springs gondola and meet at Zephyr Lodge for the Farm-to-Tahoe Dinner featuring fresh, sustainable and locally sourced produce with Northstar’s executive chef Chad Shrewsbury.

Saturday is packed with events to choose from. Cooking demonstrations like mozzarella cheese making, grilling, Autumn salad cooking and fall harvest desserts where you will learn how to incorporate the seasons best fall harvest fruits into delicious desserts. These events are all free and hosted by very talented chefs.  The progressive picnic for lunch sounds like a winner with beer and tapas tastings along with a professionally guided wilderness hike on Northstar mountain with breathtaking views and expert knowledge of the flora and fauna found on the trail.  For the afternoon, kick back and relax as you make your way through the Village at Northstar for the wine and brew walk.  Don’t miss the highly anticipated event that will top the night off, Blazing Pans Mountain Chef Cook-Off with celebrity chef Joseph Keller.

On Sunday top chefs from the region will come together in the heart of the Village at Northstar for a Culinary Competition and Grand Tasting.  Each chef’s dish is paired with a perfect compliment from the winery or brewery of their choice.  Chefs will compete for the best marriage of food and wine/beverage and best food categories and the coveted Peoples Choice awards.  The pairings are open for ticket holders to enjoy.
