Action Packed Weekend in Tahoe

Action Packed Weekend in Tahoe

Summer is just about in full swing here in Tahoe and there is no shortage of events or things to do in the area.

Challenge yourself in a competition of running, swimming, biking or paddle boarding, enjoy a guided tour out on the deep blue waters of Tahoe or participate in a clinic and learn something new.  Whatever you choose, it is sure to be fun and memorable.
The Lake Tahoe Sports Festival kicks off this weekend and runs through next weekend, Sunday, June 26th.  This options are endless as this event is offering triathlon, trail running, stand up paddling, mountain bike clinics, free guided hikes, rides and runs and a movie night.  My favorite event is the Burton Creek Trail Run on Sunday, June 19th.  You can choose between a 6K, 12K or Half Marathon.  The course is all dirt single track and runs through pine forests and high Sierra meadows.  This time of the year is perfect for enjoying wildflowers.  Another epic event is the sunset kayaking tour on Lake Tahoe.  Being out on the lake in the evening as the sky starts to turn colors with the sunset is relaxing, breathtaking and definitely unforgettable.

Summer Solstice (the longest day of the year) is coming up and Tahoe City is celebrating.  The Tahoe City Solstice Festival has a full calendar of events this weekend.  Bringing together art, food, a car show, wine walk, parties and the first summer concert at Commons Beach, it’s time to celebrate the long summer nights.  The North Lake Tahoe Plein Air Open brings 25 artists to the breathtaking scenery of Lake Tahoe for a week ending with a reception at the Tahoe Maritime Museum and art sale in conjunction with the Tahoe City Wine Walk.  The Tahoe City Wine walk is Saturday, June 18th from 12pm – 4pm at a variety of Tahoe City shops and restaurants. Pete ’n Peters is celebrating their 40th anniversary with a street party.  Enjoy appetizers, live music, a DJ and dancing.

Ready for an epic challenge?  For the first time ever in California, Squaw Valley is host to a US Skyrace, the Broken Arrow Skyrace.  This two day event, June 18th and 19th is designed from the classic European Skyraces and is a mix of off-trail scrambling on steep terrain with massive amounts of vertical gain and loss at altitude.  With 3 distances to choose from-54K, 26K or the Vertical K (unique to the Skyrace), most of the terrain is above treeline high above Lake Tahoe.

Have fun with the action packed weekend coming up here in the mountains.
